THE 327.00, sec. 001
Instructor: Laurie Merriman
Welcome Future Dance Educators!
This course is designed to expand your knowledge of the unique professional opportunities and challenges associated with the teaching of dance in a variety of settings: secondary public schools, community agencies, and special populations. While THE 327.00 is often considered a demanding course I feel confident that you will each gain the practical and theoretical approaches to be successful as a future dance educator regardless of the venue.
As a class I will expect professionalism in your classroom work, discussions, outside projects, written materials, and research. This is an excellent time to begin viewing yourself as not only a dancer and an artist, but as an educator of children with diverse backgrounds and needs. I will try to model a variety of strategies as I teach you this semester and when "lecturing" is the best method of delivering the material to you, I will use power point slides and whenever possible, link them to this site for your reference.
Your course syllabus will offer you specific information regarding course objectives, the topical outline I hope to follow, required texts, and required assignments. While we will review this on our first day of classes, you will want to refer to it periodically as the semester progresses.
Below you will find a partial list of important references for the course. I will be adding to this list throughout the semester to help support our work in the classroom:
