Reasons to Join Active Directory
-
Administrative tasks reduced

Reduces the number of routine administrative tasks you perform.
Sharing or hiding a resource becomes as simple as setting ACL's.
-
High-availability --
The 4
Domain Controllers running Active Directory have UPS backup, RAID storage,
climate control, dual network interface cards, dual power supplies, and
more. Plus, they are located in centralized core networking areas.

Single-sign-on --
Accounts are automatically created and deleted when users enter and leave the
University as students, faculty, or staff. Passwords are routinely
synchronized with LDAP.
-
Resource administration --
Local administrators maintain full control over their resources.
Additionally, with a request to the AD System Administrators, applications and services can be installed at the domain level.
