Active Directory configuration at Illinois State

  • The OU configuration on campus will coincide with the campus cluster configuration.

    • An Illinois State University cluster will sponsor each OU.  Therefore, unless approved by TSAC, no additional OU's will be created under the root.

    • OU administrators will be asked to provide documentation of their current network/OS environment before Active Directory migration can begin.  You must also provide information pertaining to cooperation levels of all computer support personnel within your OU.

    • Naming conventions for computers and hostnames must adhere to the NetBIOS Hostname Conventions found at the TNSS web site.

    • The DNS configuration at ISU will remain the same, being provided centrally by Telecommunications Network Support Services.

    • There are 4 Active Directory primary domain controllers, providing a high-availability environment, with generator power backup, UPS power backup, RAID storage, dual network interface cards, dual power supplies, nightly tape backup, scheduled LDAP updates, climate control, physical security, and multiple locations.

    • AIR, located in STV, has the AD role of Global Catalog.

    • EARTH, located in JH, has the AD role of Domain Naming Master, Infrastructure Master, Schema Master, and Global Catalog.

    • FIRE, located in JH, has the AD role of RID Master and Global Catalog.

    • WATER, located in STV, has the AD role of PDC Emulator and Global Catalog.
