Frequently Asked Questions

What is our campus Active Directory configuration?

  •  Most of this information can be found on our web site on the education page.

Are departments/units required to join the campus domain?

  • Departments and units are not required to join the campus Active Directory domain, but the University does not support the creation of independent Active Directory domains on campus.  However, departments may run Windows 2000/2003 member servers as part of an NT4 domain and/or run Windows 2000/2003 as stand-alone servers.

How should our department prepare for deploying Windows 2000/2003?

  • First, read information about Windows 2000/2003 and install on a test computer.

  • Next, read the information and links provided by the Windows 2000/2003 web site under EDUCATION.

  • Third, join the win2000-l list for campus Windows 2000/2003 updates.

  • Fourth, follow the WORKSTATION and SERVER preparation sections (or review the MIGRATION WHITE PAPER).

  • Last, once you have decided to join the campus Active Directory and would like more information, submit the PRE-MIGRATION SURVEY.
