TSAC Technology Users Group
(TTUG)
In 2001, TSAC was charged with assessing what was formerly known as the LAN Coordinators' Meetings, generally held monthly, as part of their work in implementing and promoting the Distributed Computer Support. The LAN Coordinators' Meetings were instituted some time ago as an attempt to inform the support community of campus-wide technical issues, receive feedback from support personnel, and provide technical training.
After studying the issue, TSAC arrived at an alternative way of accomplishing these goals. There will be one large meeting held each semester with two parts. First, campus-wide technical issues and updates are presented to the group as a whole. In the second part, the large group is broken up into smaller focus groups to discuss and provide immediate feedback either on the information presented at the meeting or a support topic of the group's choice.
In addition to the changes in communication and involvement, TSAC schedules monthly training sessions on topics relevant to the feedback received during the general TTUG session. These training sessions began in January 2002, and are now being held every other month on the last Wednesday of the month from 2-4 pm. On the alternate months, a "social" session is held, providing a meeting space for unstructured conversation among technology support professionals across campus. Announcements regarding these events and topics will be posted on this web site and on NETALERT-L. These training sessions will be presented initially by TSAC members, but it is our hope that there will be many members of the support community who would be willing to present topics at these monthly training sessions in the future, sharing their expertise with all. The TechZone will take responsibility for scheduling various vendor presentations in additional as-needed sessions.
