Spring to Bring 19-Phase Renovation Project for Julian Hall
The third phase of a $7 million renovation project will begin in late March or early April with the upgrade of mechanical and electric systems in Julian Hall, renovation of space on the second floor for Chemistry classrooms and the installation of a new elevator and entryway on the southwest corner of the building.
The first phases included installing an emergency generator in Julian Hall and renovating Moulton Hall to house the Registrar’s Office and the new Student Service and Referral Center.
Due to the shortage of space at Illinois State, Julian Hall cannot be vacated during the renovation project. Therefore, the work in Julian will be divided into six parts, with 19 different phases of moving personnel out of their offices. We are doing our best to accommodate our employees with the least amount of disruption possible, said Dick Runner, director of Facilities Planning. We will only ask the staff to move out and back in once.
The mechanical and electric system upgrade will involve both floors of Julian Hall, while the reconfiguration of current office space to instructional spaces will be limited to second floor.
The Julian Hall north entranceway off of College will be replaced and new accessible approaches will be added, so that the north and southwest entry points to the building will meet ADA standards.
Facilities Planning and the project architect will work to develop a detailed flow chart indicating which areas of the building will move during each of the 19 phases, said Runner. The information from that flow chart will be made available to the University community via the World Wide Web.
