In Exchange Underway

School Street (between Stevenson and Williams Halls) has a new look these days. As the weather starts to warm up students, faculty, and staff are already taking advantage of the informal seating spaces provided by the In Exchange project. Local artist and alumnus Dann Nardi ’76, M.S. ’78, designed In Exchange as a sculpture and pedestrian plaza that is part of the Fell Arboretum. In Exchange includes four different circles, the northern-most of which is now complete, with sculptural forms of earthen red concrete representing human figures or hourglasses.

The artist will return in the spring to complete the second and third circles’ art elements, followed by the contractor installing the remaining sidewalks and lights. The southern-most art element will be completed in late summer, with the finished sidewalk and street work at the south completed in the fall. The project provides for a safe and attractive pedestrian walkway that connects the Quad with the eastern part of campus, including a living laboratory filled with native species of plant life. Plant materials will be installed this spring and fall.
