Illinois State Trustees Approve The Master Plan

The Illinois State University Board of Trustees today approved The Master Plan: Achieving Distinctiveness and Excellence in Form, Function, and Design at Illinois State University 2000-2020.

The Master Plan focuses on the future physical campus development in three distinct districts identified as Central, North and Northwest. Each district will be developed with its own sense of identity and unique qualities.

The Central District will see the relocation of Thomas Metcalf School to the North District and the demolition of Walker and Dunn-Barton residence halls as well as McCormick Hall. A call for realigning Main and Kingsley Streets to create a new residential boulevard of four low-rise residence halls is also part of the Central District plan.

The North District will allow for expansion of Milner Library and Bone Student Center, which will incorporate underground parking. Within the North District, a site will be chosen for the Illinois State University Wellness Activity Center, as well as a Child Care Center.

The Northwest District seeks a reconfiguring of the College Avenue and Main Street intersection, which will create a formal point of entry into Illinois State. A highly visible Visitors Center and updated facility to replace Cardinal Court apartment living are also part of the Northwest plan.
