RESOLUTION ON BOARD OF TRUSTEES APPOINTMENTS

ILLINOIS STATE UNIVERSITY

SENATE APPROVED

NOVEMBER 6, 2002

Whereas, Boards of Trustees of public universities are entrusted with the management of those institutions
and the hiring of their presidents, and

Whereas, Appointments to the Boards of Trustees of public universities in the state are made by
the Governor of Illinois, and

Whereas, the qualifications, ethics, and social attitudes of the Trustees profoundly influence the mission
and the functioning of the universities that they oversee, be it

Resolved, That the Council of Illinois University Senates urges the Governor of Illinois to consider a knowledge and experience of higher education and its traditions of democratic structure and shared governance, and a commitment to the necessity of high-quality public education to a just society as requisite qualifications for appointments to the governing Boards of public universities in Illinois.
