Council of Illinois University Senates

CONSTITUTION

 2001

 

Section 1. Membership

      Membership in the Council of Illinois University Senates (CIUS) consists of Chairs of public university senates in Illinois. Chairs may delegate their right to attend and vote in CIUS meetings to another officer of their constituent senate.  

 

Section 2. Purpose

      CIUS shall formulate policies and positions which further the common interests of faculty in Illinois public universities; share information about such interests with its membership, public officials and the larger community; and advocate for changes in public policy and law on these matters.    

 

Section 3. Meetings

      CIUS shall meet at least once a year. 

Section 4. Organization

      CIUS shall organize itself and conduct business from time to time according to the wishes of it members.

 

Section 5. Voting

      Each member of CIUS shall have one vote.

 

Section 6. Procedures

      All policies or positions that CIUS formulates shall be transmitted to constituent senates for approval or rejection. An affirmative vote by a majority (50% plus one)of the constituent senates voting is required for adoption as the policy of CIUS. 

 

Section 7. Amendment

      Amendments may be proposed by any member in writing at least two weeks prior to any regular meeting of CIUS. The vote on the amendment must be at the regular meeting after at least a two week notification to all members. An affirmative vote by two-thirds of the members of CIUS present and voting is required for adoption. After adoption of a constitutional amendment, CIUS shall transmit in writing the amendment to all members.
