FY2006 Primary Goals and Objectives
The RSP Strategic Plan has three main goals. First, to increase overall external funding to the institution, second, to increase the awareness, understanding, and application of federal guidelines and best practices in research across the campus, and third, research compliance. These three goals and the specific objectives related to them support the institutional mission “to define a distinctive academic mission” and “to support a distinctive institutional environment” by undergirding five out of the fifteen goals of Educating Illinois. These goals are: building a distinctive research agenda and strengthening graduate education; mission driven public service and outreach; a supportive environment that promotes understanding; essential support for faculty and staff, and communicating our identity.
Goal 1.Increase external funding opportunities for Illinois State University (Educating Illinois 2003-2010 Goals 2, 3 and 7 – Action Items 5, 7, 15, 16)
Objectives:
- Help build collaborative interdisciplinary campus teams with shared research agendas.
- Identify priorities of external funding agencies.
- Identify internal research strengths and weaknesses.
- Proactively support/coordinate selected high potential external funding initiatives.
- Further refine the federal initiative process.
- Help develop specific proposals to state agencies.
- Identify existing high potential external funding initiatives and help stimulate their growth and development.
- Encourage new and less experienced faculty/staff to take advantage of external funding opportunities.
- Identify one or two high potential research initiatives for increased attention and focus.
Goal 2. Provide support and assistance and promote best practice in areas of proposal submission, post award administration, intellectual property, and technology transfer. (Educating Illinois Goals 2, 3, and 7 -- Action Items 5, 7, 15, 16)
Objectives:
- To continue to facilitate and support best practices in the submission and award process for sponsored programs.
- Improve information available to faculty and staff regarding intellectual property/technology transfer.
- Develop the responsibilities and procedures for handling of intellectual property/technology transfer.
- Create a work environment that promotes motivation, initiation, and productivity.
Goal 3: Improve awareness, understanding, and application of federal guidelines and best practice in research ethics and compliance. (Educating Illinois 2003-2010 Goals 1, 3, 4, 7 – Action Items #2 ,#7, #8, #11, #15, & #16)
Objectives:
- Continue to facilitate and support best practices in the protection of human subjects in research.
- Continue to facilitate and support best practices in the humane care and use of animals in research.
- Develop federal, state, and private external funding proposals to support the expansion and equipping of the central animal laboratory facilities.
