Communication Honors Student Organization Theta Eta Chapter School of Communication

LAMBDA PI ETA Overview—Fall, 2005 The name, Lambda Pi Eta,
represents the first letters in Greek of the three types of artistic proofs
that Aristotle presented in his teaching and writing: Logos, Pathos,
and Ethos. LPH is a national organization, affiliated with the National
Communication Association, which is one of the primary professional organi-zations for communication professionals and
professors. The LPH has over 300 chapter affiliates worldwide. Webpage for national

grown considerably. We usually have about 20 members involved at some level. |
Qualifications
for Membership
The qualifications for official membership (set by
the national organization) are: Ø Overall GPA of 3.00 Ø Major GPA of 3.25 Ø Minimum hours in
Communication: 12 Ø Minimum overall university
hours: 60 Even
if you don’t meet the standards yet, you are welcome to come to meetings and
to be active in the organization. Some of our best work is accomplished by
those who did not yet have enough hours to induct officially. Others join and
work on committees even if they cannot make the meetings. Spring,

year, LPH, while keeping separate membership, will be conducting meetings and
activities with C.O.M.M. To be put on mailing list for meeting times and

Past
Activities
LPE has been involved in many
activities and received some awards: Past activities include: Ø Conducted Oxford-style debates
on the power of media versus politicians, political correctness, and free
Internet file sharing, with visiting speakers and 150-300 in attendance Ø Initiated and held several
Comm. Department Talent Shows. Ø Held social events,
including a night of improv comedy for members, a
night of billiards at the BBC, and other events. Ø Hosted student paper
competition every year during Comm. Week Ø Conducted the Department
orientation for new transfer students at Passages. Ø Had a resume workshop for
members Ø Does “advisement” and
support for Comm lifestyle floor in residence hall Upcoming plans, which rely solely upon member
participation and initiative, include: Ø

Awards! Our chapter received the Chapter of the Year Award for LPH at the national level, from
among hundreds of chapters. We also received the RSO Small Student
Organization of the Year Award in Spring, 2003. Our Oxford Style Debate
won the RSO Outstanding Program of the
Year (Educational/Academic) in Spring, 2004. You can see the award
